Founded by the Saxons, amidst, green valleys and wooded hills, Sherborne is a mellow-stoned, living pageant of history, whose ancient and beautiful buildings celebrate the glories of church, military might and educational aspiration. The evidence is all around you in this beautiful, welcoming town - in its abbey church with its delicate fan-vaulting and stained glass windows, its several famous schools, the 15th century almshouse, the timeworn Old Castle and more recent Sherborne castle, built by Sir Walter Raleigh.
It was the inspired work of Capability Brown which linked the two castles by a serene lake and enfolded thorn in a landscaped park.
Today, this long-established market town provides the visitor with every Facility - fine hotels, comfortable B&Bs, delightful and varied shopping, handcrafted goods and elegant fashion.
Sherborne is both a developing cultural centre and the ideal springboard for discovering the unspoilt delights of Dorset.
